Dr. Latifah Abd Manaf is a Professor and the Deputy Dean of Post Graduate, Research and International at the Faculty of Forestry and Environment, Universiti Putra Malaysia. She is Solid Waste Management Educator and Researcher and Expert System Developer. She has an experience of about 24 years in the field of environment science and management and 16 years as a lecturer in solid waste management and technology. Her expertise also includes development of decision support system (DSS) especially in the field of solid waste management. She has received several awards including gold medals in various scientific exhibitions, published more than 100 publications in international journals, books and book chapters. She has also initiated the Waste Bank initiative at Universiti Putra Malaysia, where recyclables from all around the campus can be collected, managed and sold to relevant parties and students and campus members can earn some money from the recyclables deposited in the bank. She was also involved in a number of impactful projects involving communities, industries as well as academia. The model Waste Bank project has also been replicated to a rural community in Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia. Her current research interest involves the modeling of riverine land-based litters towards the impact on marine environment.
