The Success Story of the 3rd World Conference on Waste Management (WCWM 2022)

The 3rd World Conference on Waste Management (WCWM 2022) was held from 10th – 11th March in Virtual Platform under the theme “Challenges & practices on waste management and COVID-19 post-pandemic.” The conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka and hosted by the Association for Environment Management and Sustainability (AEMS) with University Putra Malaysia and Xiamen University Malaysia. Academic Partners were Institute of Water and Energy Sciences, Pan African University, Algeria, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST). Sustainable Practices from USA and Eco Spindles from Sri Lanka have joined as the Strategic Partner and Industry Partner. INSEE Ecocycle Sri Lanka joined as the main sponsor of WCWM 2022.

The conference united diverse researches and case studies from all over the world, in parallel sessions while offering many networking and publishing opportunities. Moreover, the conference welcomed 40+ Academicians, Researchers, Scholars, Activists and Professionals from 15+ 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 across the globe.

INAUGURATION CEREMONY AND SPEAKERS

The opening remarks of WCWM 2022 were made by Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Co-Founder & Managing Director – The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka) and the Conference Co-Chair, Prof. Dr. Latifah Abd. Manaf from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. Representing the official Partner universities, Prof. Dr. Azmawani Abd Rahman, Director of the Centre for Corporate Strategy and Relations from Universiti Putra Malaysia addressed the gathering. The keynote speakers were Zoë Lenkiewicz, WasteAid Senior Technical Advisor and Head of Communications, United Kingdom, Mr. Sanjeewa Chulakumara, Director of INSEE Eco cycle Lanka (Private) Limited, and Executive Committee Member of Siam City Cement Lanka Private Limited, Sri Lanka, Sian Cuffy-Young, Waste Management Educator, Consultant, and Social Entrepreneur from Trinidad and Tobago, and Prof. Dr. Latifah Abd. Manaf. Professor and Deputy Dean, Post Graduate, Research and International, Faculty of Forestry and Environment from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. GS. TS. WCWM 2022 consisted of over 40+ participants from 15+ countries around the world, including Sri Lanka, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Slovenia, Spain, USA, Russia, Italy, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vietnam. The Conference provided an opportunity for participants to share their valuable knowledge from various perspectives. This conference had representation from almost every continent and regions across the world, to share views and ideas on Climate Change and network with international colleagues.

Workshop on Tips for getting published in journals

The dissemination of research findings is a critical component of the scientific research process. The Publication Workshop on “Tips for Getting Published in Journals” was moderated by Dr. Santanu Bandyopadhyay, Praj Industries Chair Professor from Department of Energy Science and Engineering, at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). Prof. Santanu is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability, Springer Nature. All conference participants actively took part in this workshop.
